Ginger over the years has developed to become a potential market for farmers and 38-year-old Mukesh Deo knew this secret.

Farming for the past twenty years in Muaniweni in Naitasiri has become a lifestyle for Mr Deo.

He said: “I left school when I was in form two and life was very hard for us then and my father would always be farming and so I started farming too.”

With the years of experience he has learnt that ginger is the best l crop to earn a living.

 

Rewards

Mr Deo’s farming over the years has managed to secure an award at the 2015 Central Division Agriculture Show in Syria Park, Nausori where he was named the best Ginger Farmer of the Year.

Apart from this award Mr Deo has also achieve a few of his life goals from farming ginger.

He said: “My total production for the last four years was 108.4 metric tons.

“Through the income I was able to build a three bedroom house worth $20 thousand, buy a twin cab worth $75 thousand, buy a 3 ton truck worth 30 thousand and buy a second Hand tractor with implements worth $25 thousand.”

He added he was only able to achieve all this through his hard work and faith in his ginger farming.
