Expect bigger and better events from next year at the Fiji Sports Council’s Lawaqa Park facility as its $2.1 million dollar re-development project is well on track to being completed by the end of December.

Yesterday FSC chief executive officer Litiana Loabuka with manager properties John Pickering gave their sign of approval on major works done so far, by Project Managers HLJK and Fortech Construction.

“Construction works are as per schedule and I am very excited about what this re-development for Lawaqa Park will mean for the Council and its valued patrons from 2016 and beyond,” Loabuka said.

“As the major sporting hub along the Coral Coast, this investment supports our Vision to being the country’s leading provider in sports facilities and events.”

Pickering said the scope of works include the main grandstand roof replacement, sheer walls resistant to earthquake damage and the new concrete surface behind the grandstand.

The project includes a new emergency area section created with the concrete placements adjoining the a new VIP access driveway for guests. No major works have been done to Lawaqa Park since it was built in 1998, making this year’s project as another milestone for FSC as it strives to bring the best to all.

The first major event expected to kick-start at the revamped Lawaqa Park will be the Bayley’s Coral Coast 7s on  January 2016.
