The Fiji Police Force is the new winners of the 2015 ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl Development Trophy after beating the Republic of the Military Force 17-10 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Fiji Police manager Sevuloni Waqa said the win was a boost for them to spearhead their development program for the upcoming Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournaments.

“For us, this has set the pace for our senior team, this will boost and aid in the development of our players which is what we have been working towards,” Waqa said.

“We focused all our preparations and training towards today (yesterday), we knew that we needed to win and that is what the boys went out and did.

“I am happy with how they performed and this is a reward for them.”

Meanwhile, RFMF retained their title in the Over 40s competition  beating Police 15-12.

Police only managed to put up points from penalty kicks from Severo Koroduadua and Aminisitai Seru while Luke Roqoyawa converted two penalties but it was still not enough to overcome Army.

Three tries from Apenisa Tamu, Maciu Samisoni and Ilikena Nagura was enough to put Army in comfortable lead.

RFMF coach Joeli Vulavula said they were overwhelmed by the win and were more than happy to retain the title in the Over 40’s category.

“This trophy belongs with us and has set the pace for our main team and I am just grateful to the boys for their performance and hard work.

“This win is sweeter than most.

“We had only two weeks to prepare for this competition, so we are also happy about that and it’s refreshing to know that our boy still has what it takes to compete,” Vulavula said.
