The Fiji Cricket team has re-qualified for the ICC World Cricket League division 6 tournaments in 2017.

Overall, the team finished fifth in the World Cricket League and have moved up their international rankings to 39, with Vanuatu now at 38.

Cricket Fiji media liaison officer Lewis Keane said In 2014 Fiji hld an unranked position in World Cricket with a second placing in World Cricket league qualifiers in Australia 2014.

“They moved into eight positions in the World Cricket league Division 6.  Although not as high as we would like with a fifth placing in the recent tournament, they moved upwards now which is a good news for us,” Keane said

The team had a slow start during their game against Suriname and Guernsey during the tournament but finished strongly with two big wins.

Youngest player Beitaki Mua from John Wesley continually scoring runs, a player on debut Jone Wesele scoring 96 in the final match, Jikoi Kida scoring 89 runs, and in our last two games we bowled out Cayman Islands and Botswana for 96 and 102 respectively. These were very low scores.

The team is very confident for the next World Cricket League from what they’ve seen that we’ll move up into Division 5.
