Thirteen Fijian women from various provinces yesterday departed for Australia under the Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP).

The group, which is the third to date, will be employed by Plant Grow Pick Pty Limited for a six-month period.

Mother of five Avisaki Rabo, 40, of Nubuyanitu, Noikoro, in the interior of Navosa, said with such employment she would bring change to her family’s livelihood.

“I thank the Government for giving us such employment abroad,” she said.

“It has been full one year since I filled in the form; I would be still stuck in the village without employment and dependent on the head of the family but I am lucky to be part of this group.”

Taole Pasepa, 25, originally from Vatoa, Lau is also part of the group.

She thanked the Minister for Employment Jioji Konrote for the initiative which she was indebted to.

“This is my first trip abroad after dropping out in Form Five (Year 11) but there is always hope in whatever we do,” she said.

Ms Pasepa said the group went through a one-week orientation with the ministry prior to their departure.
