There’s a fine line between humor and disrespect, and it appears ITV Rugby World Cup commentator Nick Mullins may have crossed it during the opening match of the tournament at Twickenham.

Social media was abuzz with criticism of Mullins after what was perceived as a disrespectful remark about Fiji during the RWC opener yesterday when the hosts England defeated Fiji 35-11.

During the first-half Mullins said in commentary: “They will be back in Fiji around one television hoping the generator doesn’t fail them.”

Many vented on Twitter their displeasure over what was perceived as an offensive remark by the commentator for the host broadcaster.

Twitter was awash with general dissatisfaction over the tournament’s opening game, with grievances centering on the over-use of the TMO, the influence of the referee and a pretty average performance from the highly touted host nation.

Chris Owen @wonky_donky “crowding round the one TV, hoping the one Fiji generator doesn’t let them down”. Yes, well done ITV. #RWC2015 being played in 1920.
