Michael Leitch, captain of the Japan side lead his team to cause one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history after beating two-time Rugby World Cup champions South Africa 34-32.

Leitch’s mother hails from Nasukamai village, Ra. His father Geoff is a New Zealander.

This is Japan’s second win in World Cup history after beating Zimbabwe in 1991.

Though the side put on an impressive performance against a Springbok side boasting 851 caps, the job is not over as they face Scotland in their next game.

“We’ve been training to beat the Springboks for the last three years,” Leitch said. “We want to celebrate this win but we’ve got Scotland around the corner so we have to prepare.”
