The Labasa Tourism Association will have its annual general meeting (AGM) next month to decide whether to change the name of the association or not.

Association president Paul Jaduram said the association was thinking of changing the name to Macuata Tourism Association.

“Since the formation of the association in 1973, the association has always carried on with the name,” Mr Jaduram said.

“Other tourism association named it after their town like Savusavu Tourism Association and there is no association as far as I know that is named after a province.

“Why we are thinking of changing it to Macuata because there are places like Tabia and Nukubati that have beautiful tourist sport and we thought to appreciate their presence.”

Mr Jaduram said Labasa was a district and town itself so they have always carried on with the name for years

Mr Jaduram said the naming of the association would be decided and finalised in the AGM.

When Fiji Sun asked if the association would be electing a new president, Mr Jaduram said he cannot comment on this as yet.
