The Fiji University Sports Association (FUSA) is on a mission to set up an Oceania University Games with the help of universities within the region.
FUSA acting secretary Gabrielle Qoro said discussions with universities in the region were underway to include Australia and New Zealand in the tournament.
“FUSA is looking at trying to get a committee with Oceania University Sports Association (OUSA) for them to run an Oceania University Games. The committee is bidding for us to host the first one,” Qoro said.
“What Oceania University is doing is they are having their games, but it is called Australia University Games which is held in Australia.
“Since we all come under the Oceania University Association, we are trying to recommend the Oceania University Games.
“FUSA has already started discussions with the rest of the universities around the region.
“We hope to select our Fiji University contingent into the Oceania and from there to the World University Games under The International University Sports Federation (FISU).”
Qoro said there would be workshops in October to not only help the committee and students, but help FUSA run the event.
