The Ministry of Defence National Security and Immigration has a vital role to play in ensuring the success of our new democracy.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Osea Cawaru made these comments while launching the ministry’s display week at the Government Service Centre in Suva yesterday.

“As stated in our Minister’s speech to Parliament, that he is committed to ensure that all the arms of the National Security Sector are made more efficient and effective, therefore this requires all our commitment.

“Through the provision of roadshows, awareness and displays, the ministry is confident in building up the trust and confidence of members of the public,” he said.

Mr Cawaru urged the ministry to work together as team as members of the Defence Ministry (HQ, Police, RFMF and Immigration) and be committed to serving our fellow Fijians and to do our best to keep Fiji safe, secure and stable.

“Our ministry has an important role to play in ensuring the success of our new democracy by meeting Government and all Fijians’ expectations, regarding security.

“The maintenance of peace, security and stability are the primary responsibilities of Government and it is one the core outcomes of our Ministry,” he said.

Mr Cawaru also said it was a privilege to officiate the ministry’s display week.

Meanwhile, Department of Immigration, acting manager compliance and investigation, Ifereimi Dakunikuila said they were working very closely with authorities in fighting human trafficking in Fiji.

“We are concerned with Fijians safety and with the best of ability we are going to make sure that Fiji is safe from human trafficking activities,” he said.  The ministry’s display will end on Saturday.
