Fareed: No Redundancy Plan For Fiji TV

Fiji Television Limited director, Nouzab Fareed, has reiterated that there is no redundancy plan for Fiji Television.
He said as part of SKY Pacific sale to Digicel, they would be transferring the skilled staff of the SKY Pacific division to Digicel.
He said this was because these staff members knew about the pay television services and it was also part of the agreement and was happening with their consent.
“There are around 40 staff members. It is on a voluntary basis and they are going on their own,” he said.
Therefore, Mr Fareed categorically denied that there is a redundancy plan and is as per his earlier statement.
Mr Fareed’s response was to a statement from the National Federation Party leader, Biman Prasad, asking for clarification whether a redundancy plan for Fiji Television was in order.
Mr Prasad also raised concerns referring to social media posts that from October 1, Fiji One, the local free-to-air channel on SKY Pacific will be shut down.
To this, Mr Fareed said up to now, SKY Pacific has not been handed over officially as Digicel is still awaiting for a licence.
“Depending on the licence condition Digicel is receiving, they may or may not show Fiji One which is beyond our control – it is nothing to do with us,” he said.
“So Digicel is yet to get a proper licence and there will be some condition attached to that.
“So we don’t know whether there will be a condition attached to that to say yes to local content or no.”
