Our effort in eradicating poverty and extreme hunger was recognised in New York through an award presented during a South-South Gala Event.

In accepting the award on behalf of the Government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, expressed gratitude to the South-South Awards Organising Committee for the recognition.

He acknowledged the committee’s chairperson, Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, as well as the relevant UN Agencies and International Organisations involved, for their assessment and recognition that led to the award.

The South-South Steering Committee for Sustainable Development hosted the prestigious red-carpet gala.

Heads of States and Governments, top UN officials, film and television celebrities, international business executives, civil society leaders, philanthropists and academics attended the event.

The gala event featured some of the most celebrated Hollywood actors, including Oscar winners, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Forest Whitaker, who spoke to honor the achievements of the global South and celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations.

It coincided well with the adoption of the new universal development framework, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
