Captain Cook Cruises ship Reef Endeavour will be making another stopover in Labasa next month.

Labasa Tourism Association president, Paul Parmanand Jaduram said for this year this would be the fifth visit of the vessel.

“In a year the vessel makes about five trips to Vanua Levu,” he said.

Mr Jaduram indicated that through these trips to Labasa, this year, there have been a record number of tourist arrivals.

“We’ve registered about 310 tourists and we’re expecting more. The ship berths at the Fiji Forest Industry (FFI) jetty in Malau, which is outside Labasa town.”

Mr Jaduram said Government is now planning to build an international port of entry near Tabia.

The proposed site is called Middle Point.

“This is about 20 minutes drive from Labasa Town and we are expecting major development works to take place as more cruise liners are expected to visit. Since Government will be announcing the 2016 national budget in November, I’m hoping that they will allocate a special fund for this international port of entry.

“Such major investment and infrastructure development will really boost the tourism industry not just for Macuata but for the whole of Vanua Levu.”

Mr Jaduram added that once these infrastructure falls into place, tourists would feel comfortable and choose Vanua Levu as their ideal tourist destination.
