There is an increase in policing services as a result of global changes, says the Minister for Immigration, Defence and National Security, Timoci Natuva.
He made the comment while officiating during the Fiji Police Force Remembrance Day at the Police Special Response Unit at Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Natuva said it would require a high level of sacrifice from everyone to effectively address policing demands.
“Having a day for remembrance for Police helps us to acknowledge the dangers of the policing profession, the importance of the sacrifice of these brave officers and the impediments that lie ahead,” Mr Natuva said.
He said the day also helped Police officers in recognising the friendship and loyalty of their colleagues and the importance of values like integrity, trust and respect in policing.
He reminded Police officers that as part of their dedication to uphold the rule of law, they were to ensure that no matter what jurisdiction or police force they were part of, an officer needed to know their common goal which was to combat all forms of crime.
Twelve Police officers who died while in service between 2014 and this year were also commemorated.
