Viljoen To Take up Fiji Airways Chief Role Tomorrow

After months, the wait will finally be over.
The new chief executive and managing director of Fiji Airways, André Viljoen, is expected to take up his new role from tomorrow as per earlier announcements.
Mr Viljoen is understood to be already in the country preparing for his new adventure.
He comes with 33 years of seasoned airline experience and holds an Honours Degree in Commerce and is a Chartered Accountant.
He will fill in the position left vacant after the departure of former chief executive/managing director, Stefan Pichler, in March this year.
An acting chief executive appointment was made in July to ensure business continuity and alignment in the interim period until Mr Viljoen took over.
This saw David Bowden, an experienced aviation executive, lead our national airline in the interim period.
No formal interviews have been given by Mr Viljoen yet to the local media but this might take place as soon as he settles in his role and understands the business.
He has, however, mentioned in a recent interview in French to l’express, a Mauritius-based newspaper that: “I will do my best in Fiji Airways. It is a new destination and a new adventure for me.
“It’s a beautiful job opportunity that was offered to me by Fiji Airways and that helped me finally decide.”
Mr Viljoen had been with Air Mauritius for the past six years and said he gave the best of himself to the company and had an exceptional career alongside Air Mauritius employees.

What’s the plan for Fiji Airways
Mr Viljoen joins Fiji Airways after its recent transformation, including its rebranding from Air Pacific and a fleet upgrade.
The national airline is at a stage when it is exploring further commercial opportunities, including new routes.
Singapore has already been announced and confirmed whilst another route, possibly Bei-jing or another Asian destination, is being looked at.
Indeed exciting times await him as the five-year strategic plan for the national airline is already there and now the execution is left – all this being a part of the plan.
It would indeed be interesting to see what Mr Viljoen plans to do to take our national airline to greater heights of success.
Also what would be of interest for a lot of people would be whether the new chief will propose any major changes to the strategic plan based on his experience and successes.
