Residents of Labasa can now breathe a sigh of relief following the completion of pipe upgrade works by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) at Y-Corner.

The upgrade works had been causing water supply disruptions to residents over the past few days.

Resident Crystal Bula said she was relieved now that the problem had been fixed.

“I’m very happy they had taken our concerns into consideration,” she said.

Similar sentiments were shared by Rahul Ali of Namara.

He said water was running well in the Namara area.

“Water is running well as normal but seems dirty as times, so we just boil than drink,” Mr Ali said.

A WAF statement said its operations team had been working on all pipe upgrading around Labasa for the past two weeks.

The statement added that the Authority was kindly advising its affected customers to store water in advance and use it wisely for their immediate needs during the temporary disruption period.

Meanwhile, some residents raised concerns over health risks as a result of the dirty water coming out from their taps.

The WAF statement however, said water carts were on standby to service affected areas as and when the need arose.
