Suva Football coach Gurjit Singh has brought in new players to help their Courts Inter-District Championship (IDC) title.

Suva will take on newcomers Dreketi on Saturday in the first round at Subrail Park, Labasa.

Singh also confirmed he brought in players from various districts to replace some of his key members who have left the team.

He said this was a good chance for his team to showcase their football talents.

“We’ve got Filipe Baravilala who came in from Nadi; we have Kaliova Tuivau and Madhawwan Gounder from Tailevu/Naitasiri, and Don Raj from Nadroga,” he said.

“We don’t have any big names in the team but most of the young boys are from Naitasiri and Nadroga.  We know that these two teams have not done well in the National league. That why we’re giving this opportunity to these boys and I am sure they’ll prove themselves.”

“The biggest problem for us is we have lost some of our top players. Our main goalkeeper Ulaisi Tamanisau is still in the hospital but he’ll be fine before the tournament,” Singh said.

Other key players who have left the team are Dave Radrigai and Kilinio Sivoki. They have joined Lautoka.

“I think they must have better deals in other districts and that is what the players have been looking for and that’s their choice. The players have the right to move so we couldn’t stop them and we just want to wish them all the best for the tournament,” Singh said.

“It will affect the team because the best players of the team have gone and this is one of the most important tournaments for the season and this is the time all teams are well prepared. At the same time we won’t take any team lightly. We’ll do our best and prepare well and see what lies ahead of us.”

Suva’s top three players Jale Dreloa, Rusiate Matirerega and Maciu Dunadamu will help boost the ‘men in white’ on Saturday.
