The Jolame Bera-captained Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) side departed our shores yesterday adamant of victory in England.

Team manager Captain Osea Natuva is optimistic with the side for delivering the goods at the 2015 International Defence Rugby Competition.

The side is pooled alongside New Zealand, Japan and Royal Navy (UK) in their first match on October 8 at Portsmouth.

“The preparation has been good mentally, and physically,” he said.

“All teams will be trying to win as no team trains to lose, and we are not making the numbers there.”

He said that their counterparts, the NZ and Japan teams will be hard nuts to crack.

“Japan cannot be rated after what their national side did in the RWC 2015, NZ teams are close to the All Blacks and Royal Navy is the host team,” said captain Natuva.

“We just have to play and improve from our loss during the Sukuna Bowl which is a big learning curve for the team as a whole.”

The side boarded a Royal Australia Air Force aircraft bound for England.

Fiji had previously made a mark in a similar tournament in the early 1950’s when Captain Isimeli Radrodro led the First Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment to lift the Far East Landforce Cup.
