Rape Cases Decrease Last Month: ODPP
Extra concern still remains over young victims, some in early to mid- teenage years.

Rape offences decreased last month from the disturbing high levels in July but there is still much to be concerned about.

There were no cases of attempted rape, indecent assault, defilement or sexual assault recorded by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) last month compared to the 22 sexual offences committed in July.

However, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, a 12-year-old was the youngest rape victim for last month.

This was confirmed by the recent statistics on rape and sexual offences by the ODPP.

The report showed that 11 rape offences were committed in September with four victims and five accused persons.

It also highlighted that out of these four, two were under the age of 18-years; one was a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old.

This showed a decrease from the previous month’s statistics where there were 20 victims, 15 of which were below 18 years of age.

The report also showed that two cases were discontinued before the courts after discontinuances were filed for two rape matters.
