The Fiji National University acting Vice Chancellor Professor Ian Rouse has called on the private sector to work with the universities to train graduates.

Professor Rouse highlighted it was the mission for universities to graduate compassionate and competent professions.

But he said many of our graduates were not leaving the universities with skills they need from one in employment.

“This is where the industry can train them. We have to work and prepare for the future. We need to look at what are our priority courses and focus on those,” he said.

Professor Rouse said in terms of learning, teaching and training, we need to question what we are teaching our students.

“And whether it is what the industries of Fiji need and then how can we provide that knowledge. For industries, we need to ask- how can I get involved?” he said.

“FNU has good resources. In terms of leadership, management and people, we need to partner with the industries.”
