Lauan chiefs are happy with Ratu Finau Mara being appointed by the Vuanirewa clan as the next Tui Nayau.

Speaking on their behalf, Turaga na Sau Mai Mualevu, Ratu Viliame Tikoca, of Vanuabalavu, said he had asked the delegate from Lakeba during the Bose Vanua in Suva about the Tui Nayau.

He told the delegate from Lakeba that the people of Lau would like to have their chief installed.

Ratu Viliame said he was happy that the chairman of the Lau meeting, Mr Ilisoni Taoba who is also a member of the Vuanirewa clan said they had appointed Ratu Finau as the Tui Nayau.

He said the position of the Tui Nayau had been vacant for too long.

The Sau Mai Mualevu said they wanted the installation quickly but Mr Taoba had said it would be in 2017.

Ratu Finau is the eldest son of the late Tui Nayau, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

He has four sisters:

• Adi Ateca Mara, born 1951, married Ratu Epeli Gavidi Ganilau.
• Adi Koila Mara, born 1953, married Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
• Adi Asenaca Kakua Margaret Mara, married Epeli Tuikenatabua.
• Adi Litia Cakobau Mara, married 1991, Harry Dugdale of Shropshire, England.

His two brothers are –

• The late Ratu Jioji Tuisawau Cokanauto Mara
• Ratu Tevita Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara
• Ratu Finau has two children – Ratu Salesi Kinikinilau Mara, Adi Lawedua Rokolubatilakeba Mara.

He is married to Vitinia Tualau Buadromo.
