Big Win For Lions

The Labasa football team thumped Trade Air Rewa 3-0 in the first round of the 2015 Courts Inter-District Championship at Subrail Park yesterday.
What happened:
The Babasiga Lions were fired up from the start and never allowed Rewa to settle. Labasa enjoyed most of the possessions and put Rewa under pressure.
Taione Kerevanua opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Kerevanua and national U23 rep Christopher Wasasala played well upfront. Halftime: Labasa 1-0 Rewa.
Labasa lifted the momentum in the second half applying more pressure on the visitors who only had themselves to blame for poor attacking tactics.
Wasasala scored Labasa’s second goal in the 70th minute. Labasa lifted the intensity and in the dying minutes Simione Maikali applied pressure on Rewa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau who made a blunder resulting in an own goal.
Fulltime: Labasa 3-0 Rewa.
The win was special to the Babasiga Lions; it was also a perfect birthday gift for coach Bal Sanju Reddy.
Star Turn: Labasa displayed a magnificent performance both in attack and defence.
Big Play: Christopher Wasasala’s attacking skills was hard for Rewa to contain. He was also terrific in support play creating chances for his side.
Comments: Labasa head coach Bal Sanju Reddy said:
“I’m very happy with our performance because the first game is always important.
“Now we will take one game at a time.”
Rewa head coach Marika Rodu said:
“I am not disappointed as Labasa played a good game. But we will go back and work on areas that we need to improve on.”
