A Fijian in Sydney has returned home to start a real estate business.

Jason Raj, principal ISelect Real Estate, said he was encouraged by Government’s investment policy and real estate opportunities in the Fijian market.

ISelect Real Estate was officially launched by Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources Tevita Boseiwaqa on Friday night at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

Mr Raj was born in Labasa and raised in Lautoka, Ba and Rakiraki before moving to Sydney, Australia in 1995.

He said this was one of the first and smallest of the many investment plans he had in Fiji.

Why real estate in Fiji?

The $100,000 investment, he said, was as part of his overall business after he saw a wide scope on how real estate operated in Fiji from an ethics and standards point of view.

“In my own dealings, I felt that there was a gap in Fiji with the rules and practices in terms of what the agents offer.”

Staffing

The company would employ four fulltime staff, of which two had already been recruited.

For now they had received a lot of applications from interested individuals and had been overwhelmed with the level of qualification of people applying.

“The quality of applicants of paper was quite high but we wanted people with certain people skills so at the moment we’ve employed two people, we’ve shortlisted another person, we may have initial staff of four full timers and a couple of part time people.”

The recruitment, he added, would be that his agents were required to complete the certificate of registration which was run by the New South Wales government.

Vision

The firm’s vision is – ‘Service you deserve From the People you Trust’ Mr Raj said this meant that they would have to earn the trust of people they were dealing with and vice versa.

“You have to earn the trust and we want to earn the trust of the people of Fiji and share with them that the real estate can be a business which is ethical and for us people will be very important,” he said.

Competition

He acknowledged competition which allows for improvement of services and good practice.

“It’s a good thing and we want to be different. We also want to make sure that our point of difference are the things…is trained people, good people with the right approach and right morals,” Mr Raj said.

The firm is located on 23 McGregor Road in Suva and hopes to open another office in Nadi in the near future.
