Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri says  it is rather sad that despite all efforts by them and the Land Transport Authority to keep our roads safe, some drivers still ignore their advice.

This comes as, road accidents have been recorded in Labasa almost every week.

Mr Sokomuri also noted the bookings recorded by traffic officers across the divisions continue to paint a worrying picture especially the no care attitude by some drivers.

“In the weekend periods more drivers are booked for speeding, one of the leading causes of road accidents and fatalities on our roads,” Mr Sokomuri said.

He said with more movement anticipated towards the festive season motorists should immediately adopt a change of mindset.

“Motorists must understand and take into consideration that these are life threatening offences.

“Overspeeding is an offence and motorists should drive within the legal speed limit.
