Every Fijian will have better access to dental health.

That is the assurance made by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Permanent Secretary, Dr Meciusela Tuicakau, during the 2015 Fiji Oral Health Workers Association (FOHWA) awards night at the Holiday Inn Suva last Friday.

Dr Tuicakau said the increasing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Fiji and the region made good oral health more important in maintaining health and the quality of life for those affected by these lifestyle-related conditions.

“We will continue to ensure that Fijians from all walks of life, especially the under privileged, those with special needs and the elderly are not denied access to good dental healthcare, no matter where they live,” he said.

The awards night marked the end of the association’s conference and to recognise the exemplary performance by individuals for having consistently excelled in their position.

Dr Tuicakau said the conference provided an opportunity for dental practitioners to see and experience how “Science works with Industry” and also be kept abreast of the latest in technological advances that would continue to shape and improve the practice and delivery of dentistry in Fiji.

He urged all dental practitioners to apply what they had learned and continue to strive to elevate their standards of service delivery.
