The Go for Gold Challenge four-man Ambrose golf tournament at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa golf course on Yanuca Island collected over $21,000.

The event included the corporate sponsors, businesshouses, Vodafone 7s players and team management and the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Resort general manager Craig Powell said the one-day event was to raise money for the  Vodafone 7s team to the 2016 Rio Olympics. “It was a success as we collected over $21,000 in this fun activity,” Powell said.

“Fiji has never won any medal at the Olympic Games before and 7s  is our best bet. It’s important for businesses, fans and the private sector to get behind the team.

“We are looking at collecting $20,000 to assist the team. The gold medal in Rio would be an icing on the cake,” he said.

The tournament sponsors include Redbrick Laundry, Law Hill Wines, Hot Glass of Fiji, Ecolab and Vinod Patel.

Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan was grateful to the help shown by the business community.

Meanwhile, the players also attended the coaching clinic at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course last Saturday, the venue of the 2015 Fijian International.
