There will be 600 women artisans participating at the 2nd National Women’s Expo 2015 in Suva.

The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, said the expo theme, ‘Connecting Women to the Markets; Make it Happen’, would enable women to be empowered economically, socially, culturally and politically.

She said this during the unveiling of the billboard for the National Women’s Expo 2015 at Walu Bay, Suva, yesterday.

“Fiji’s Constitution guarantees equality for every Fijian by providing them with a range of social and economic rights,” she said.

“It is gender responsive, this being the basis for the creation of a dynamic and powerful event such as the National Women’s Expo that has touched the lives of women, their families and the nation.”

Ms Akbar said the divisional craft shows successfully conducted in May this year in the central, western, eastern and northern divisions were staged as build-up events for the national expo.

“The craft shows were used to select the best women artisans who have demonstrated great potential in qualifying for the Fijian Made Emblem,” she said.

“These women will be fully-sponsored by the ministry in terms of their accommodation, meals and transportation. They will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and get the best price and recognition for their hard work,” she said.

Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed–Khaiyum, officiated the unveiling of the National Women’s Expo billboard.
