Labasa Mill To Close This Month

Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) Labasa mill will be closed around mid October this month says chairman Abdul Khan.
Mr Khan said at this stage the closure of the mill would be based on the amount of sugarcane which are still to be harvested and delivered to the mill.
These comments were made after concerned farmers asked for an extension of crushing date.
However, Mr Khan stressed the Labasa mill has been performing well and has crushed more canes compared to the other mills.
“Our intention as in past years is to ensure that we process all the cane that is available,” Mr Khan said.
“We urge farmers to have their cane harvested and delivered to the mills.
“As of Sunday morning, 542,000 tonnes of cane has been processed and we expect another 68,000 tonnes to be harvested and delivered to the mill.”
