This Saturday’s Fiji Day celebration in Suva will be the last for Ratu Epeli Nailatikau as President of the country. Ratu Epeli was sworn-in as President of the Republic of Fiji on November 5, 2009 and with the Constitution only allowing a maximum of two three-year terms in office his term as President ends in November.

This year’s Independence Day celebration will be his sixth and last while in office.

Meanwhile Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva said a committee led by PS Osea Cawaru was preparing a programme.

He said the venue for the event would be either Suva Grammar School or Bidesi Park.

The PM, Voreqe Bainimarama, who returns to the country on Friday, will also be at the celebrations. The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander, Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed to the Fiji Sun that they would also be participating at the Fiji Day celebrations.
