National Fire Authority is calling on sugarcane farmers in Macuata Province to take extra precautions in burning their cane farm.
Since May the Labasa NFA station has received and attended more than 34 sugarcane farm burnt calls.
Fire Authority chief executive officer John O’Connor said whether it be property or farm fire call, it was NFA’s responsibility to attend to it and see that no one’s life was in danger.
However, Mr O’Connor is requesting farmers to supervise their farm when burning cane.
