The Ministry of Health is still yet to decide on the temporary suspension of medical services provided by the visiting team from the Sahyadri Group of Hospitals in India.

Minister of Health, Jone Usamate said they were still looking at reviving their relations with the Sahyadri Hospitals in India.

In an earlier statement, Mr Usamate had said certain issues needed to be settled before they could continue angiograms and advanced cardiology in Fiji.

Meanwhile, a reliable source from Sahyadri Hospital in India told Fiji Sun the surgical team which was advertised as coming from their hospital in fact had no relation to them.

“Briefly the team which was advertised to be coming from us, that is Sahyadri Hospitals, had in fact no relation with us and had no doctor from our team,” the official said.

The official also said it was blatant misinformation from the sponsor of that visit as that visit was not arranged by Sahyadri Hospitals.

“Fortunately we heard about it just in time for us to inform the Ministry Of Health in Fiji which resulted in the prompt action from them and the visit was cancelled,” the source said.

Minister of Health Jone Usamate also said earlier the ministry’s ultimate concern was the care and safety of the Fijian people.

Usha Singh of New Zealand, whose mother was operated on by Sahyadri Hospital surgeons from India, said they did a tremendous job on her mother and she has fully recovered.

She said the same operation, if done in Australia or New Zealand, would have been at double the cost of what they paid in Fiji.

“The suspension of these surgeons from operating in Fiji will have an impact on people in Fiji because we lack cardiologists and such medical experts; we hope the Ministry of Health in Fiji will relook at their decision in suspending these Sahyadri Hospital surgeons,” Mrs Singh said.
