Frank Farina will be the Fiji Football Association national head coach for the next two years.

The former Socceroos coach/player takes over from Carlos Buzzetti whose contract expires on December 6.

“It’s an honour and privilege to be offered the head coaching role for Fijian Football,” he said.

“Fijian FA president Rajesh Patel approached me to consider the national coaching job,” Farina said.

“If Patel was not re-elected, I would not taken up the offer because I’ve had a good working relationship with him.

“It’s going to be a long road. There’s not going to be any quick fix. I think there’s a lot of possibilities and potentials here in Fiji not only from player and coaching development.

“You only develop good players by having good coaches and I will be doing everything in my power to help Fiji be a successful team.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said the board decided not to renew Buzzetti’s term. He said the national team would be participating in the FIFA U17 and the U20 events.

“We had to make a move very quickly. We advertised the position and the board have decided to appoint Frank.”
