Fijian national amateur boxing coach Pauliasi Ratu was happy with yesterday’s performance in their second Summer Series tournament at the National Fitness Centre in Suva.

“Anything can happen in boxing and we really need to prepare well,”Ratu said.

“Many of these boxers are young and we’re training them for future tournaments like the Pacific Games.”

Ratu said they were putting together a team to face the Tahiti invitation squad next month.

“We want to pick the squad.

“We are urging the coaches and boxers to come and participate so that we can pick our squad to face the Tahiti team,” Ratu said.

Results:  Jone Korilagilagi won on unanimous decision against Jimi Nalawa in the light heavyweight contest.  Jemesa Kean won by TKO over Eceli Tuinicagi, Immanuel Matiyavi won by TKO over Charlie Lolohea.

Fiji Amateur Boxing Association president Manasa Baravilala hopes the boxers will take advantage of the opportunity and prepare well for future tournaments.
