More than 300 youths from the New Methodist Christian Fellowship’s Suva Zone gathered at My Suva Picnic Park last Saturday to celebrate Fiji Day.

Event co-ordinator Pastor Ophia Sandy said the gathering helped youths to meet and engage in spiritual teachings through music and action songs.

“Many youths stay home during holidays. We try to keep them in the right track and stop them from getting into trouble,” Pastor Sandy said.

“This is why we came up with such activities to keep them occupied.”

She said the gathering was also filmed to be part of a video clip to promote the church’s Super Increase Youth Festival next month.

“We used the whole park to do our video shooting and take photos to help promote our upcoming event which will be held from November 2 to 6 at Nadovu Park in Lautoka.”

Suva zone youth group member Josephine Tokainaqila said: “This is a better way to celebrate Fiji Day than just going around town all day and doing nothing,” she said.

Naomi Rokona another member said: “It is better to be here than doing nothing. Being here with other youths and still be connected to God’s teaching is much more fun.”

She turned down plans to visit Suva City with friends to be at the gathering.
