Konrote Is New Fijian President

Major General Jioji Konrote is the new Fijian President.
He secured 31 votes while Leader of Opposition nominee, Ratu Epeli Ganilau secured 14. Three abstained.
The secret ballot is the first under the 2013 Fijian Constitution.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola was one of the first to send out the following tweet from the floor of Parliament.

The National Federation Party, who had publicly declared that they were not going to vote in the secret ballot were one of the first to send out their best wishes to Mr Konrote.
