Sixteen schools have registered to compete in the FNU International Food Festival cooking competition organised by university at its Namaka Campus today.

Event organiser Aqela Cakobau said they have received an increase in participants this year.

“When we ran the competition last year only seven schools participated but now it has increased by nine.

“The response from schools has been overwhelming,” she said.

“The increased in numbers has shown how the successful the event was last year and also how students have shown their interest in the festival.

“This is one way to assist students in terms of giving them a fair idea of their career pathway.

“In keeping with this year’s festival theme of ‘Home Garden and Backyard Farming- Food for All’, we will make sure they include in their recipe something they have taken out from their garden.

“If we are coming up with such programmes for our little ones than we are creating the best food ambassadors in championing the importance of local food in the society’s wellness and good health,” Ms Cakobau said.

The event is sponsored by Blue Gas and there will be live entertainments from the students of Fiji National University themselves.

The FNU International Food Festival ends this Saturday.
