Matai Akauola.

Veteran journalist Matai Akauola will wait for Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s call to join Parliament.

Now that Joiji Konrote had resigned and was elected the new President in Parliament yesterday, the FijiFirst party has a vacant seat in Parliament.

The next FijiFirst eligible candidate is Mr Akauola who is presently a media specialist with the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC).

When asked by the Fiji Sun yesterday on whether he would take up the vacant seat in Parliament, he said he would wait for the Prime Minister’s call.

Last Friday he told the Fiji Sun that he would discuss with ONOC first before making his decision.

Mr Akauola was the next eligible candidate after the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Acting Commander, Commodore Viliame Naupoto, but the latter had to resign from FijiFirst on his re-employment with the RFMF.
