The 4R Electrical Ba’s  Court Inter-District Championship hero Abbu Zahid didn’t waste time by acknowledging his former high school teacher for helping him craft a successful playing career.

The double goal assassin, who buried Nadi during the grand final at Govind Park on Sunday, used social media, Facebook to extend his appreciation to Nadi Muslim College teacher, Nadeem Mohammed for believing in him during his Drasa Secondary School days.

Zahid said it was back in 2006 when he first played at Courts IDC at secondary school level as the youngest player with the winning Drasa Secondary School team.

“When all teachers ignored me because of my age and size,  Nadeem Mohammed was the only teacher  who believed in me and gave me a chance”, he said.

“I have worked hard from then on and reached where I am today.

“It was because of  Master Nadeem that I learned so much at a young age and got exposed to high level soccer.

Mohammed, who is now a successful coach of Nadi Muslim College thanked his former student, congratulation him for the win.

“I still remember how other officials wanted their favorites to be part of the final squad. That is when I stepped up and said how on earth can we ignore such a player, who, though may look small in age and size, but will surely is a star in the making”, said Mohammed.

“Some really hated me for changing the squad and getting Abbu Zahid included in that final squad.

“It was the special talent and sheer hard work that  caught my eyes”.

Mohammed said he was proud of the decision he made by including a Form 3 student in the 2006 Drasa Secondary winning squad and today, it’s that ‘baby’ of that historic team creating the stir in Fiji soccer and making news.

“I saw something special at that time and I am glad that I was able to convince others to have him in the squad so as to expose you, the player that they said is too small to become ‘the next big thing”.

Mohammed said it was nice of Zahid to remember him about that decisive moment.

“Thank you for remembering me at this time of celebration . Just stay focused, train hard, always seek blessings from your Mum and the loved ones, and pray hard. This is just the beginning of so many successes and achievements destined towards you”.
