New Laqere Market Soon

Market vendors at the Laqere makeshift market in Nasinu will soon have their prayers answered.

This follows the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Nasinu Town Council and Nasinu Land Purchase Co-operative Limited for a new Laqere Market.

Minister for Local Government, Environment and Housing Parveen Kumar said after an observation by the ministry on the safety of the vendors and their shelters the ministry knew there was a need to provide them with a better shelter.

“Government has allocated some funds for this land and the construction of the market,” Mr Kumar said.

“This will be a great day for the people of Nasinu because now they will have a fully fledged market and I’ve been informed that the construction of the market will begin sometime in January.”

Nasinu town administrator Mosese Kama said the signing of the agreement was a new beginning for market vendors at the current Laqere market.

There are currently more than 40 vendors at the makeshift market. The two acre- land for the new market is situated behind the current makeshift market.
