Speaker not honoured and respected

Tomasi Boginiso, Suva

The nomination of the President of Fiji in Parliament was a chaos and disturbing when the Opposition bombarded  the Speaker

The Opposition seems childish and unprofessional in their act of the nomination of Mr Konrote as the President of Fiji.

To the point of the resignation of Mr Konrote from the political party, did they check whether Mr Ganilau has resigned from the political Party.

Let’s find out whether the Opposition will be present in a opening of the next Parliament session that will be opened by the newly appointed President.

We should be moving forward in all aspects, but with scenes in Parliament in the Nomination of President session, it seems like primary school children fighting over a toy.

Military Cross medal

Tukai Lagonilakeba, Nadi

For one to be a recipient of a Military Cross medal does not qualify himself to become a President of our Nation instantly, it is not a criteria as section 83 and 84 of our 2013 Constitution does not say so contrary to Ro Teimumu’s claim relevant to the Opposition’s nominee for the President.

Neither does the illusion or assumption of rotating the post between our three confederacies hold any validity as the Constitution is also silent on it. Why is she not utilising the presence of the many highly qualified legal eagles in the Opposition, or is it she does not trust their legal interpretations of our 2013 Constitution.

I will not blame her on that part as all in the Opposition bench have been on record for their outright rejection to which they still have not accepted the validity of our world-acclaimed constitution.

It will also be very interesting for the leader of opposition to provide through this column a detailed report on what days did the Tovata Kubuna and Burebasaga confederacies met to support her claims including the names of those who were present on the day to endorse the name of Ratu Epeli Ganilau. The result that was projected on the day in Parliament was totally the opposite.

The i’Taukei Affairs ministry is normally asked to convene and be present in such meetings to record and be witness as such.

Obviously, Ro Teimumu is a very dejected person, but one would have thought that as a mature politician, they will have abstained from nominating nobody as the numbers in Government is a humongous gigantic imbalance. In it all they have insulted the integrity of Ratu Epeli Ganilau.

The Noatau villager from Rotuma Gagaj Jioji Konrote has now settled in very well in that white house on the hill. Fijians, we must give him our best wishes similar to our famous Fiji Methodist Church prayer whereby we will always seek the Good Lord Jehovah’s Almighty blessings ki vei Viti kei Rotuma at the end of our every Sunday church service.

Invited guests will all be looking forward with the greatest of anticipation to meeting and personally congratulating him at this Friday’s Fiji Medal’s Investiture by our President.

Thanksgiving day

Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Delta, BC, Canada

Bula Fiji..today is Thanksgiving day here in Canada.

Every second Monday of October has been set aside as a national Thanksgiving Day, where Canadians thank God for his abundant blessing on the nation.

We Fijians have just celebrated our Independence day and this one is special because it marks the first year in our moving forward in our new dawn.

The FijiFirst Bainimarama led Government has achieved a lot in the last few years compared to any previous government.

Is it too much to ask our Government for a national Thanksgiving Day so that we as a nation could come together as one to thank the Almighty for His many blessings on our nation?

Canada is a multiracial and multireligion nation and is not a Christian state.

If they can set aside a national Thanksgiving Day, so can we.

To God be the glory for all His providence and blessings on our beloved nation-Fiji.
