Fiji FA to see the star player’s availability against Vanuatu and Solomon Islands

New Zealand-based Roy Krishna has been named in the national squad to play Vanuatu and Solomon Islands next month.

The matches are part of the Fijian side’s engagement in the Friendly Window Internationals.

Krishna is named alongside Osea Vakatalesau and Avinesh Waran Swamy in the 32-member squad.

Team director Tarunesh Reddy said, “Roy Krishna is included, but we have to see because the A-League has started and we’ll have to see his availability. We have requested the Wellington Phoenix and we are waiting for his confirmation.”

He said the matches would help in the national side’s FIFA ranking.

“It’s not that we’re sitting down and not doing nothing. We played Samoa and Tonga two months ago and we’re playing in this International Window from November ninth to the seventeenth. We are playing another four matches, so we cannot just go outside the FIFA Window and play the matches to improve our ranking.

“We have to play games when there is a Friendly Window and are able to improve our ranking and FIFA will recognise that.”

The national side play Vanuatu on November 7 and 9 and against the Solomon Islands on November 11 and 13.

“We have to bear in mind the time frame we are playing the four matches and also the FIFA Window will close next month, so to improve ranking, we have to play international matches during the FIFA Window.  It has cost us $72,800 and we’re working on the most senior team to play.

Assistant coaches

“The team has also introduce two coaches who will helping Frank Farina. We have a new structure since Frank Farina is the new head coach. We have structured how we’re going to work and we’ll have assistant coaches to all senior teams which will be headed by Frank and we have former Ba coach Yogen Dutt, and Kamal Swamy.
