Akbar says such support helps strengthen work of women here.
A sum of $63,000 was given by the Japanese government and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a form of assistance for the 2015 National Women’s Expo.
The contribution is made in line with the REACH Project, which commits for the Right Empowerment and Cohesion for Rural and Urban Project Fijians Project.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Takuji Hanatani said that in June, $2.5 million had been given to UNDP for the REACH Project.
“This is aimed at effectively improving people’s access to social services, especially for the women of Fiji in rural areas and informal settlements,” Ambassador Hanatani said.
He also highlighted that Japan assisted the Ba Women’s Forum for the construction of the Ba Women’s Training Centre this year and this will assist in the empowerment of women in Fiji.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar said these assistance would help Government strengthen the work of Fijian women in contributing to our national economy.
