First Expo For Naigani Of Macuata

For 62-year-old retired school teacher, Ateca Naigani, sewing ‘patch bed spread’ was something she did not have time for when she was working.
“I don’t have time to develop my skills in sewing as I have been taking care of my family and working,” she said.
Mrs Naigani of the Macuata Women’s Group said this was her first time participating at the Fiji National Women’s Expo .
Her products include lacadrau (patch bed spread) and pillow cases.
“To sew a lacadrau would take me a day or two weeks depending on the design,’’ she said.
One lacadrau that featured 30 sunflower designs was selling at $200.
She said the expo was a chance for her to mingle with other women who were also making patch bed spread and learn new designs.
Mrs Naigani said 50 women make up the Macuata Women’s Group.
