The High Court in Suva yesterday granted 14 days for the State to respond to the affidavits of former Permanent Secretary for Education, Basundra Kumar.

Mrs Kumar had earlier sought a judicial review on how her employment matters were handled by the Ministry of Education.

Mrs Kumar who was represented by Devanesh Sharma appeared before judge Justice David Alfred yesterday.

State lawyer Sofina Ali asked the court to grant her 21 days to respond to the affidavits, however Justice Alfred approved only 14 days which would be on October 28.

Mr Sharma will have to file his reply on the State’s responses to the affidavits on November 4 before the case will be called again for mention on November 17.

Mrs Kumar is challenging the decision on how her employment terms were handled within the ministry when she was indefinitely suspended without pay last year.

In December, Mrs Kumar had tendered her resignation but withdrew it later in January this year.
