News got out this week about the appointment of a new chairperson of the Fiji Commerce Commission.
Joann Young was appointed to the position of chairperson on September 17.
She fills in the permanent position left vacant after the resignation of Mahendra Reddy, who is now the Minister for Education.
Ms Young brings with her nearly 20 years of experience as a national, regional and international policy analyst working in agriculture, trade and development.
She has therefore dealt with a wide range of stakeholders including government officials, farmers, private sector and development partners.
Ms Young also has strong advocacy experience on advancing a policy oriented agenda through influencing public policy by proposing technically sound, evidence-based approaches and solutions.
She believes this would greatly add to steering the complex work of the Fiji Commerce Commission.
“In addition to this, my experience on building partnerships, providing focused technical cooperation and capacity building, networks and mobilization of external resources could come in handy,” she said.
“This is in ensuring that the Fiji Commerce Commission is well-resourced and well placed to becoming a more dynamic and relevant organisation.”
Sun Business interviewed Ms Young on her plans for the Fiji Commerce Commission and what people can expect given her appointment.
The Commission also now has a full board which is a big plus.
