Matt Kuchar aims to be the first American to win the Fijian International.

This was after the world’s ranked number 16 carded an even par 72 in the second round at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course yesterday.

His shot a two over par 74 in the first round for a total score 146 to lead the race.

“It is a guessing game on a lot of holes, there is no blame going anywhere,” Kuchar said.

“When things don’t go right then it is a challenge.

“I was beaten up pretty good. There were couple of crazy incidences like the second hole when you could not possibly play on with the ball rolling like it did.

“But in the second round it seemed windier at the start then slowed down a little bit. It was challenging but playable and I’m happy to be done with 36 holes.

The 37- year old played the Pro-Am on Wednesday, nine holes on Tuesday, said two putting was a real feat.

“It seemed to grow harder on the first day and the rain was the only saving grace to keep us playing. It softened the greens and slowed it down,” he added.

“When you have the winds it gets dried out and the ball picks up more speed. I made six birdies and that is hard to believe. Even if it is from 10 feet, you be hoping that it does not gust and hope that it is steady.

“I made handful of 15 footers and you would hope to make the putts inside five feet but those are hard.”

He is overwhelmed to be having his dad Peter Kuchar as his caddie reminiscing his amateur days.

“Dad is doing well going around the hills. I did not realise when I signed up that caddying was going to be this challenging but he is doing a great job,” he said.
