The Australia-Fiji Business Council was reminded on the vital role it plays in Fiji’s tourism industry and the importance of acting now.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Tourism, Industry and Trade Faiyaz Siddiq Koya during the 22nd Australia Fiji Business Forum which ended in Sydney yesterday.

Mr Koya said: “Fiji is moving ahead at phenomenal pace; hence the Australian business community needs to act now and be part of the growth or risk being left behind.

“The Australia-Fiji Business Council needs to lead the charge in ensuring that we are able to maximise on the potentials.

“Fiji has world-class business conferencing facilities, therefore, the Business Council needs to encourage their members to host conferences, conventions, meetings, seminar, corporate planning and team building and networking sessions in Fiji.”

Growth and Partnership

Mr Koya stressed to the council: “The Australian market is still our largest market, but in terms of outbound Australian market is 9.2 million, visitors to Fiji represent only 3.8 per cent.

“Therefore, there is huge untapped potential that is yet to be explored and capitalised on.”

In terms of the continuous growth in Fiji Mr Koya said: “Government will continue to work in partnership with the private sector and development partners in developing key investment areas such as sports tourism, medical or health tourism and cultural tourism.”

He said the investment incentives aim at growing those segments and spreading the benefits to non-tourism regions in Fiji.
