Nadi striker Mohammed Shafim rose to the occasion as Maigania score a big upset in the Fiji Australia New Zealand Canada and America (FANCA) International Club Championship 2015 at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

His superb goal came in the second spell to oust Avondale (NZ) 1-0 in an epic quarterfinal yesterday.

Maigania had the services of veteran Navua sweeper Nasir Ali, Siga Ali and Mohammed Tahir Ali.

Jubilant team manager Naushad Ali said the camp was in good mood to make it past the eliminations.

“We are happy to make it this far, to qualify for the finals too,” he said.

He said if they played without key players Imran (Taito) Ali, Mohammed Shalim, Mohammed Moushaf and Afraz Ali.

In the other matches goalkeeper -cum striker Sheik Moshin and Ratu Luke Ramaisalato guided Papatoetoe (NZ) side to edge Sydney Stallions (Australia) 2-1.

Lautoka edged Nasinu 2-1 and Brisbane led Sydney Varavu 3-0 when this edition went to press last night.

Fiji Muslim FANCA Sports Federation chairman Mohammed Sattar said the semi-finals should be exciting.

The first semifinal is between Maigania – Lautoka) is scheduled for 9am and 10.30am (Papatoetoe – Brisbane/Sydney Varavu) respectively.

The veteran’s competition is set for 1.30pm while the final is scheduled for 3pm.
