National hero Vijay Singh set a new course record of seven under par 65 at the 2015 Fijian International at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course yesterday.

The former world Number One broke the record set by David Smail (67) last year.

Singh finished in third position with a total score of 289 (78, 75, 71) with Ryan Fox and Nick Cullen each collecting $58,312 for their effort.

“We all go out there and say what could have been, at the start of the day I never though that I could shoot seven under,” he said.

“I thought to get the pars and see what happens but that was a good round.

“I made the best of the conditions. The first two days were key rounds in which you had to survive with a decent score.”

The 52 year old shot seven birdies and 11 pars

“There was no wind from the fifth to seventh holes, actually it came in the other direction which shocked everybody,” Singh added.

“Those were good putts.

“I got up and down on the 16th to save the par so it was good. I just played very solid, it was good.

“I played great and very steady, the holes 12, 13 and 14, they were all pretty easy The par 5s were easy as well. It was lesser winds.”

Meanwhile, 2014 winner Steven Jefferess  finished in 18th  spot tie with Adam Blyth and Daniel Fox with a score of 299 (+11) and collecting $12,768.75.

Day One leader Josh Geary (NZ) received $16,275 for finishing 15th with Garett Sapp (USA) and Jamie Hook (Aus) with a total score of 298 (+10).
