Minister Hits Out At School Management Association

The School Management Association of Fiji is made up of failed Labour party politicians, says Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy.

“They need to be exposed and people need to know what they have been up to all this while,” he said.

Mr Reddy made these comments after being informed of the association’s attitude against his reforms in the education sector.

The association president, who is also president of Arya Samaj Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, Kamlesh Arya, has denied all allegations made against the association.

The Minister said the association had allegedly been involved in some dirty games and the ministry was investigating this.

“The association is formed by a small group of elites who are using the name of the association to further their personal agendas,” he said.

Mr Reddy said the association members had a vested personal interest to derail Government’s education reforms.

“We have done immense changes to improve the quality of education this year and they have been sleeping on the job for the last five years and we have done number of consultations,” he said.

“We don’t want to be derailed by this type of people with personal intentions, they are not under any representative body and some of its members are implicated in the Auditor-General’s Report and I don’t think they have the credibility to lead a consultation which looks after the school management in this country,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr Reddy said the practice by Arya Schools  to deduct five per cent from their Government education funds to set up a loan scheme was very wrong.
